Rockland Hispanic Parents Denounce Injustice and excluded immigrants on hunger strike

This week on La Voz en Breve, journalist Mariel Fiori has a show on immigration and culture. There are issues in the Central East Ramapo School District in Rockland County that negatively affect the academic performance of black and Latino public school students. The fact is that the School Board has diverted funds from public schools for the benefit of private schools, primarily yeshivas. The majority of public school students are black and Latino (30% and 62% respectively). Today she spoke with two Latino parents active in solving this problem, Ana Maeda and Luis Nivelo.

In their column, Dignity for Everyone, Sara Curtis, from the Workers’ Justice Center, Jairo Reyes, from Obreros Unidos, Pedro Peña, from Don Bosco Workers, and Janet Rolón, from the Community Resource Center, talk about the fund for excluded immigrant workers of emergency aid for the pandemic. Jairo, Pedro and Janet have organized a 17-day hunger strike for $ 3.5 billion dollars to be included in the state budget to help immigrants. Senator Stewart Cousins supports them, but they ask that they continue to call their representatives. The budget will be approved in the next few days.
