Tree auction, kindergarten help, and harmonica virtuoso comes to Bard

This week in La Voz en breve, journalist Mariel Fiori has a show on education and family. In the comment section, she read her editorial in the November magazine La Voz, The Power of Protest.

She spoke to Danny Higuita from People’s Place about the Christmas tree fundraising auction and the services offered for the winter season. Open Monday through Friday from 10 am to 1pm, at 17 St James Street, People’s Place, you can pick up all kinds of food and participate in the wellness program, which includes yoga classes, for free. Applications are being accepted for Thanksgiving food and holiday gifts. Donations are accepted and volunteers are always needed. For more information, call 845-338-4030.

Kaity Altu from Family of Woodstock explained how to apply for childcare assistance, as some guidelines have changed. Contact the Department of Social Services at 845-334-5000 to get an application, available in English and Spanish. For information on the Childcare Connections program, including grants for child care centers, call the Family of Woodstock at 845-331-7080.

In addition, the harmonica virtuoso Joe Powers joined again, who this Saturday will perform live at Bard College, free at 7pm at the Campus Center. Pre-registration is required, through the Joe Powers website.
