La Voz: Questions for School District Superintendent Dr. Paul Padalino on How the School Year Will Continue

This week in La Voz en Breve, journalist Mariel Fiori has a show on education and family. I interviewed the Kingston City School District Superintendent Dr. Paul Padalino on the ever-changing plans to reopen schools in September, while a pandemic for a disease that has no cure or vaccine still lingers. Dr. Padalino spoke of the reopening plans, the impossibility of controlling children from hugging and touching each other; and about the teachers union, which already stated that for the first 10 weeks of class the teachers want virtual classes (and then they will reevaluate). Tomorrow at 6 p.m. there will be a new virtual meeting with parents, teachers and the community to continue the dialogue and see which buildings can physically be opened in September. The superintendent indicated that although the conversation will be in English, there will be subtitles available in Spanish at the bottom of the screen.

Entrevisté al superintendente del distrito escolar de la ciudad de Kingston, el Dr. Paul Padalino sobre los planes, siempre cambiantes, de reabrir las escuelas en septiembre, mientras que una pandemia, por una enfermedad que no tiene cura ni vacuna, continua. El Dr. Padalino habló de los planes de reapertura, de la imposibilidad de controlar a los niños para que no se abracen o toquen; y también del sindicato de maestros, que ya dijo que por las primeras 10 semanas de clase, los maestros quieren las clases virtuales (y luego revaluarán). Mañana a las 6 p.m. habrá una nueva reunión virtual con padres, maestros y la comunidad para continuar el diálogo y ver qué de verdad puede abrirse en persona a partir de septiembre. El superintendente indicó que aunque la conversación es en inglés, habrá subtítulos disponibles en español en la parte inferior de la pantalla.
